About Bill Popp
Bill Popp has spent more than 40 years in both private and public sectors in Alaska. As president and CEO of the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation from 2007-2023, he set the strategic direction in marketing Anchorage and Alaska to both companies and global industries considering business opportunities in the region.
Prior to joining AEDC, Popp was special assistant in the Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor’s office, where he focused on oil, gas and mining policy, as well as special projects through two administrations. Popp later served as an elected municipal government official for the Kenai Peninsula Borough, presiding over the KPB Assembly as president in 2000. Popp’s private industry experience is extensive, working for large national and regional businesses, as a small business owner and as project coordinator of the Challenger Learning Center for Alaska.
Popp previously served as chairman of the Governor’s Broadband Task Force, board chairman of Alaska Public Media and chair of the 49th State Angel Fund Advisory Committee. He also worked on the board of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, Visit Anchorage, Anchorage Downtown Partnership, the Alaska Partnership for Economic Development and the Anchorage Concert Association. Popp has also been a member of the University of Alaska Anchorage College of Business and Public Policy Advisory Board, the Alaska Film Group, Municipality of Anchorage Energy Policy Task Force and the International Economic Development Council.
